PLAINSBORO, N.J. — A group of American Muslims, led by two prominent scholars, is moving closer to fulfilling a vision of founding the first four-year accredited Islamic college in the United States, what some are calling a "Muslim Georgetown."


Advisers to the project have scheduled a June vote to decide whether the proposed Zaytuna College can open in the fall of next year, a major step toward developing the faith in America.

Imam Zaid Shakir and Sheik Hamza Yusuf of California have spent years planning the school, which will offer a liberal arts education and training in Islamic scholarship. Shakir, a California native, sees the school in the tradition of other religious groups that formed universities to educate leaders and carve a space in the mainstream of American life.

I can see it now, one can get a Master's degree in jet plane take off, but training on landing it. How about advanced studies and obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in suicide bombing? Let's not forget that Associates Degree in killing women for wearing make-up and most importantly, how to get away with it.

If this "university" opens we can import the terrorists, give them an education, house, feed, keep them near the targets, and give them an alibi. Then President Barack Hussein Obama can give the commencement speech and laud all the Muslims for all the things Islam how done to, sorry, for America. How convenient.

Who'd have expected this kind of response from the posters on this site? I'm shocked anyone here would equate a Muslim school to a terrorist training ground.

How many Christian universities are there in the country? But let's not let Muslims have one.

What worries me is we "may" be giving our enemy a forum in this country to teach their propaganda, not unlike the KGB did in our colleges and universities during Viet Nam. They, KGB, orchestrated many rallies and protests against the war, right or wrong, to subvert our efforts. This lies open the possibility for an Islamic College, during this fight against terrorists who are Muslim.

The problem is, the way our country works, we can't deny it because they are Muslim. I'm very glad that's true; I believe wholeheartedly in religious freedom. I also think that Muslims in America are probably much more likely to be of the moderate variety, so you may be overstating the issue. I would also say that it's an important distinction that the terrorists are Muslim and it's not that Muslims are terrorists.

Yes, the terrorists have been horrible for the image of Islam. And yes, there have been some instances where Muslims have made themselves look bad. Still, those comments by you and Det were in pretty poor taste I don't want to make a big deal of it, I just felt it deserved being pointed out.
