Bill Maher to Apologize for Calling Pope a Nazi

HBO comedian Bill Maher is planning to apologize Friday night for accusing Pope Benedict XVI of being a Nazi, an HBO representative confirmed for FOXNews.com.

Maher reportedly will not apologize for calling Catholicism a “child-abusing religious cult," but HBO could not confirm this for FOXNews.com.

In a letter to HBO President Sue Naegle, a group of politicians complained that Maher "crossed the line of decency."

Maher, host of "Real Time With Bill Maher," has come under attack from Catholics since going on a rant April 11 about Pope Benedict XVI's visit.

Catholic League President Bill Donohue said Maher "lied when he said the Pope 'used to be a Nazi.' Like all young men in Germany at the time, he was conscripted into a German Youth organization (from which he fled as soon as he could). Every responsible Jewish leader has acknowledged this reality and has never sought to brand the Pope a Nazi. That job falls to Maher."

Even as a comedian I don't find him funny. I am surprised anyone could have been offended by his comments because I am surprised anybody watches him on HBO.

I love it. He is single handedly destroying himself. I wonder if he could eliminate his entire audience.

True B-Man. Entertainers have gone a bit far with the religious and political comments.

I have no problem with them excersising their free speech.

However, they should beware of their consumer excersising their freedom to not support them. You piss them off, you have no money and you go from riches to rags over night.

I think Mr. Maher is slowly realizing that. He didn't learn his lesson the first time though.
